From the Earth Grows the Grass
KidsSoup Inc.
From the earth grows the grass,
(Fingers of the open right hand wiggle upward like growing grass)
The rain comes down to make it last.
(Fingers of the left hand wiggle downward like falling rain)
Here comes the bright sunshine,
(Right hand forms a circle overhead to represent the sun)
And out pops a flower, so fine.
(Right hand shows a flower by raising the index finger)
The bud soon opens wide,
(Right hand’s fingertips touch to form a bud, then slowly spread open)
A butterfly lands to take a ride.
(Left hand forms a butterfly shape and lands gently on the open flower)
Both sway gently in the breeze,
(Both hands together sway side to side, mimicking the wind)
Then the butterfly flutters away with ease.
(Left hand "flutters" away with opening and closing movements, hiding behind the back)
Now the flower stands alone,
(Right hand stays open like a flower)
Quietly it closes, back to its home.
(Right hand closes back into a bud shape)
Extension:
You can extend the activity by encouraging children to create their own rhymes or stories based on the pictures. This interactive approach makes learning engaging and fun!
