Pumpkin Song
Author Unknown
(Tune: Have You Ever Seen a Lassie?)
Have you ever seen a pumpkin, a pumpkin, a pumpkin,
Have you ever seen a pumpkin, that grows on a vine?
A round one, a tall one, a big one, a small one, (show the different sizes of the pumpkins with your arms and fingers)
Have you ever seen a pumpkin, that grows on a vine?
Let children share what they know about how a pumpkin grows as you record their responses on the board. Then, read the book Too Many Pumpkins.
Finish group time with a lively game of Hot Potato (Pumpkin). You will need music and a small pumpkin. Keep the children in their circle and play some lively bluegrass or country music. Start with you holding the pumpkin and then begin passing it around the circle. Stop the music after a few seconds. The child holding the pumpkin when the music stops is out and can move into the center of the circle, or can be dismissed to the next activity. Continue until only one child is left.
