The importance of instilling the concept of...
This month’s preschool and kindergarten theme focuses on Monsters and Halloween. The KidsSoup Resource Library is stocked with all new preschool and kindergarten activities, games, rhymes, literacy ideas, and more designed to ease children’s fears while educating them at the same time. Monsters, ghosts, and witches lose their inherent scariness as children interact with them in fun and funny ways through reading, art, counting, talking, and using manipulatives. Children compare and contrast characters and events in There Was An Old Lady Who Swallowed a Fly and There Was An Old Monster, categorize vocabulary words from Go Away Green Monster, and study the –ad word family after reading and discussing Glad Monster Sad Monster. Opportunities for talking about emotions and constructive ways for expressing them will naturally arise as children engage with the materials. In addition, new letters, colors, shapes, and sight words are introduced to help children continue to build mastery in areas such as alphabet skills, vocabulary, word recognition, and phonics.
