Let's Build a Snowman! Fine Motor Activity

Let's build a Snowman! Preschool fine motor activity

What you need:

Cotton pads/rounds (for the snowman’s body)
White pompoms and cotton balls (for snow)
Small twigs (for arms)
Felt pieces (for noses, scarves, and hats)
Small buttons (for decorations or eyes)
Ribbons (for scarves or embellishments)
Glass pebbles or small stones (for eyes, buttons, or other details)

 


Learning Goals and Standards:

Develop fine motor skills through pinching, placing, and arranging small items.
Encourage creativity and imaginative play.
Enhance focus and coordination.


What you do:

Setup:

  • Arrange all materials on a table or tray for easy access.
  • Provide each child with a flat surface to build their snowman.

Building the Snowman:

  • Body: Stack 2-3 cotton rounds to create the snowman’s body.
  • Face and Buttons: Use small buttons, glass pebbles, or small stones for the eyes, mouth, and buttons.
  • Arms: Attach twigs on either side of the snowman for arms.
  • Nose: Cut a small triangle from orange felt for the carrot nose.
  • Scarf and Hat: Use ribbons or felt pieces to make a scarf and hat.

Snow and Scene:

Surround the snowman with white pompoms etc. to create a snowy scene.
Let children add extra decorations to personalize their snowmen.

Extensions:
Storytelling: After building their snowmen, ask children to create a story about their snowman.
Counting Activity: Count the number of buttons, pompoms, or twigs used.
Color Identification: Discuss the colors of the materials used.
